“I thank my God every time I remember you,

constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you,

because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now.”

Philippians 1:3-5

Dear Friend in Christ,

I will be ending my ministry with you on the last day of June.  It has been my privilege to have served you and the Salem church family for over eleven years.  I am looking forward to retirement, but Melody and I will very much miss you and every member of our loving and caring church family.  After reaching the age of sixty-five and having completed forty years of ministry, I feel that the time has come for me to retire.

You soon will be served by an interim pastor.  As I will need to make the transition from serving you as pastor to retirement, so you also will need to make the transition from thinking of me as your pastor to a new person as your pastor.  Support him or her well!

After I retire I will not be coming back to Salem for worship services or church activities.  I will not be coming back to do any baptisms, weddings, funerals or other pastoral acts.  The reason for this is to allow the interim (and eventually your called) pastor to fully be your pastor without any interference from me.

I am deeply grateful for your support of me as your pastor and also for all of your love, kindness, and support for Melody and me.  Thanks to each one of you for joining together with me in doing together the ministry of our Lord in our congregation, communities, nation, and around the world.  Thank you for “your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now.”  Thank you!  May God bless and guide Salem’s future work for God’s kingdom!

Your Friend in Christ,

Pastor Wayne
